A new wind energy electricity generation record has been set in Brazil, with more than 2,989.2 megawatt-hours of electricity generated from wind energy projects in the South American country one day in July (July 20, 2015). To give a better understanding of the figures involved, it should be noted here that that’s roughly enough electricity to provide for the needs of around 13 million regional homes.

Of this figure, the country’s Ministry of Mines and Energy reported that the northeastern region was responsible for the largest portion, with an output of 2,282 MWh. During the last year, wind energy capacity has grown around 179% in the country — now representing around 3.5% of the country’s total electricity generation mix.
